Our Story
We were founded in Fall 2022 by three students and were officially recognized by USF in just two months. Since then, we have registered over 280 members from a range of ability: novice runners who have never run a day in their life...to seasoned competitors, with some of our top runners propositioned to compete at the USF D1 Team. A large subset of our members have come to practice, having never run before, and we provide a safe space for them to learn basics and build foundational running skills.
In May 2023, Club Running won the Emerging Student Organization of the Year Award, an honor nominated by the undergraduate body, recognizing, “exemplary effort to enhance the USF community, maintain strong and consistent operations throughout the academic year, and maintain a substantial membership base."
Club Running aims to teach fundamental skills to newer runners and to help guide experienced runners to breaking their personal records, all while stressing the importance of recovery and balance. Doing so, Club Running strives to be a space for all athletes to build their self-confidence and find a safe, welcoming community centered around a healthy lifestyle.
We hosted our first official school-wide event in February 2024, a 2.5 mile Fun-Run through Golden Gate Park. This event was entirely self-funded, raising over $2000 in one month with the help of our community sponsors. We had over 200 registered runners and 103 participants on race day, despite the heavy rain during the event! In May 2024, our event was awarded the Event of the Year Award!
Club Running takes great pride in the progress and achievements of our members. Notably, several members have competed in their first race ever, while others undertook their lengthiest racing endeavors: 5ks, 10ks, half-marathons, even marathons! In the 3 years since founding, participation in the November Golden Gate Half Marathon has become a tradition for many of our members.
2024 Event of the Year Award
USFCA Club Running has won the 2023-2024 Event of the Year Award through the Department of Student Leadership and Engagement at the University of San Francisco!
Each year, one undergraduate student organization is recognized for its continuous commitment and contribution to the USF student body, via an “exemplified excellence in creating, planning, and implementing an outstanding event for USF community, which welcomed the entire USF community and/or public.”
